The Time of the Cocoon

The Time of the Cocoon

We can think about this as a Chrysalis phase. We were caterpillars, now we’ve all got hulled up in our cocoons. Depending on the work we do, we have to opportunity to emerge as beautiful butterflies. Take this time and look to the eternal investments you can make, both in yourself and in other people.

2 Corinthians 4:16–18 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.  For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

We all have a ton of time on our hands. I know some of you have cleaned out all your closets. Not a bad idea. It can be time for good spring cleaning! I made the kids clean baseboards yesterday.
We have a glorious opportunity to learn new things and to grow in our faith. We have time to spend reading the Bible and in prayer. There are so many spiritual growth resources, books, videos, etc online it’s not funny.
Not only are we getting down time to think about what is most important in life, we are also getting down time to grow in our faith and grow in other areas so we can re-emerge from this as better people and more faithful disciples.
We can think about this as a Chrysalis phase. We were caterpillars, now we’ve all got hulled up in our cocoons. Depending on the work we do, we have to opportunity to emerge as beautiful butterflies. Take this time and look to the eternal investments you can make, both in yourself and in other people.
Personally, I’m loving time to read and pray, to play guitar and to spend with Joey and my girls. Today Joey said, “You know, this is a blessing. When else am I going to get this kind of time with my girls.” We can easily change our perspective and look at the blessings that this time of quarantine provides us.

Let’s pray:
God help me to think beyond the day to day, and to consider how I can be growing and preparing to be your servant in my world. Help me consider how I can be your hands and feet, even today when I’m cloistered away from everyone else. Amen.
